About the tool

A clear, focused keyboard check

Key-Test.online is an independent browser-based utility for checking whether key presses reach a web page.

What the keyboard tester does

When you press a physical key, the tester listens for the keyboard event reported by your browser and highlights the matching position on a standard Windows-style keyboard. Tested keys remain marked for the current session, making it easier to work across the full layout.

What it does not do

The tester does not inspect a keyboard's switches, circuit board, firmware, cable, wireless connection, or electrical signals. It does not certify that hardware is defect-free, and it cannot guarantee detection of keys or combinations reserved by your browser or operating system.

Why results have limits

A successful highlight shows that the browser delivered a recognizable key event. A missing highlight may indicate a hardware issue, but it may also result from a reserved shortcut, keyboard remapping, a non-US layout, browser behavior, an extension, or an operating-system setting. Results should be treated as one diagnostic clue, not definitive hardware certification.

How we approach the site

Our aim is to keep the tool quick, understandable, accessible, and honest about what browser-based diagnostics can establish. We do not require an account to run the test.
