Function Lock and Fn Lock
A device setting may choose whether the top row sends F-key events or media actions by default. The browser cannot change or reliably inspect that firmware setting.
Standard F-key diagnostic
Observe physical F1 through F12 events and optionally follow a browser-safe subset in order, while accounting for browser, operating-system, and laptop Fn-layer behavior.

The main guide uses F2–F4 and F6–F10. Reserved keys remain optional and individually testable above.
Reserved behavior
Browsers and operating systems commonly reserve function keys. F1 may open Help, F5 may reload, F11 may toggle fullscreen, and F12 may open developer tools. Behavior differs, and this test does not globally disable those controls.
Laptop and software layers
A device setting may choose whether the top row sends F-key events or media actions by default. The browser cannot change or reliably inspect that firmware setting.
On many laptops, Fn is handled below the browser event layer and never produces a normal KeyboardEvent. An unobserved Fn key is not a failed result.
Brightness, volume, backlight, airplane-mode, and other media functions may be handled by firmware or the operating system instead of appearing as F1–F12.
A function key can reach this page yet perform nothing in another program if that application has no binding or intercepts it differently.
A careful test method
Limitations and privacy
A reserved action may occur before or alongside the event this page receives. Tested, pressed, guided progress, and mismatch observations remain in temporary memory; no function-key history is sent or stored.
